Thomas Thomas one time schoolmaster of Kidwelly
« on: Tuesday 17 July 07 17:11 BST (UK) »

Dear Community

I am interested in finding out information about  Thomas Thomas  born about 1825  LLANDYSILIO GOGO  in neighbouring Cardiganshire (and please I hope I have the spelling correct).   Thomas eventually  married a Mary (maiden surname unknown)   born  about 1831/32 in Tregaron (Caron).   I do not know the marriage date.

They moved to Kidwelly by 1871 and had children Mary Jane  (born abt 1866)  David A (born abt 1859)  Sarah A  (born about 1870 ) Margaret born about 1860 and another son James D G (born Kidwelly  1872)

Mary Jane married Robert Northey in Pontypridd in 1886

Son James DG was a postman in Kidwelly by the time of turn of twentieth century.

For several years Thomas Thomas was a school master and “time keeper” in Kidwelly.  He was also apparently active in Wesleyan church affairs.

 Is anyone researching this family?

Thanks    Nequine

Excellent news.   I had nearly given up on Thomas Thomas and his wife Mary.  They are not an uncommon names.

And there are a few in Kidwelly in the late c19 and early c20.

I would ideally like to know birth, marriage and death details for the above John and Mary.  And Mary's maiden name.

I am led to believe  that Thomas the schoolmaster had a brother Daniel who ran a couple of successful emporiums in Aberystwyth in the late c19 and early c20.  Daniel became mayor of Aber in 1911, about the time the National Library of Wales was established.

Another relation perhaps a brother of Thomas emigrated to Ohio and it was there where Mary Jane Thomas Northey emigrated with her family to 1910. Mary Jane might be a bit of  a railway siding for you ,but if you like genealogical railway sidings, I can help a bit more here.

thanks again for getting my morning off to such a great start!

Hi
Unfortunetly I have only information from Sarah A onwards from the time she married James Hanna.  They lived in  Ireland (I have quite a lot of stuff re the Hanna's and those relations.  I had asked a Aunt what she remembered about the family history and she told me of 4 generations of curly hair and it was said to come from Auntie Northey who lived in America from which I made the connection to Mary Jane.  I'm sorry I don't have any other information relating to their ancestors but if you want to see what I have you are welcome although I am unsure how we can do this?  I am going to see if I can now dig a little deeper elsewhere to find any connections and would like to know where you fit in.  Do you perhaps have a tree on any other ancestry sites?? I have mine on GenesReunited.

This is my second attempt to post

Not my family tree, but a SIL's.  Who has curly hair.

I have information about the Hannas of Birkenhead via Ireland but likely it is information you have already.   Two daughters and a son born about 1896.  Father was a wholesale ironmonger/jeweller.

I have a suggested name for Thomas Thomas' parents of David Thomas and Mary Lloyd.  But I would like to know definite BMD for him.  And his wife, mother of Mary Jane and Sarah A.

Mary Jane died in Licking County Ohio in 1925 and was born in Carmathenshire maybe.  Year uncertain.  Again far too many Mary Jane Thomas's to pin her down even.   Her death certificate gives credence to an 1862.  But death certificates are not always accurate.

We might crack this yet.   But thank you for assuring me I am not alone in my madness of trying to trace a Thomas Thomas in late C19 Wales.  I am pretty certain about Kidwelly though.  And now, thanks to you I am more certain.

Thanks again.
