Eileen O' Callaghan 1940's
« on: Monday 16 July 07 11:42 BST (UK) »
My Mother, Eileen O' Callaghan born 1932, lived in Devenish Road, Kimmage, in the 1940's. She would be 75 if she were alive today. To my knowledge she only has two siblings alive - a brother (he has Alzheimers so no memories) and a sister, both in England. Eileen (an Irish dancer) was a member of the 'Royalettes' (?) at some point and went on to join the Bailey's Roadshow; she would have traveled all over with them, so someone must remember her. As far as I know, she met my Dad, Michael O' Callaghan, at that time - he was a musician and played the saxophone - he later had a band called The Michael O' Callaghan Showband. They lived in Cricklewood after that for a couple of years and then moved to Buttevant in North Cork, where he was from.

I have very little information about Eileen's family in general. Her Mother Jenny Burns was from Lanesborough in Longford, (she had a sister called Lilly) and I don't know anything about her Father Sean O' Callaghan, other than that he was a Scribe in the Army.
Can anyone help??? I would appreciate it so much.

Hi Iseult Music,

I've a large number of online friends in the world of music on MySpace. I have a wide range of musical tastes so feel that some of the people who play the London Irish clubs
as well as people from Co. Cork may be able to assist.

Would you have any objection if I posted a bulletin on MySpace asking for assistance?

Christopher

Thanks again for doing that. A thought just occurred to me. I mentioned that Eileen married my Dad, Michael O' Callaghan of the 'Michael O' Callaghan Showband' - well it may not be widely known that he passed away on December 7th last, which may be of interest to people of a certain age who danced to him all over Ireland, England and the States.

Again my thanks,

Sandra

Hi Sandra,

Do you O'Callaghans have a strong belief in causing clerical workers as little hassel as possible?

I've received a reply from Maur of The Rostrevor Sessions. Rostrevor is at the foot of the Mourne Mountains in Co. Down and is near the Carlingford Lough and Warrenpoint. There's a strong music tradition in that part of the world with something most nights of the week.

"Well if they are Burns, they have a Scottish angle to them. Well at least somewhere along the line but if I was you, I'd start here:

http://www.nationalarchives.ie/

Try the Irish centre in Cricklewood and Camden, they might have records going back that far, Best of luck"

Maur

Was Sean in the British or Irish army?

A letter to the Irish Post might get you some information. www.irishpost.co.uk

Also try the Longford Leader, Longford Leader Ltd., Leader House, Dublin Road, Longford

There's a free lance journalist named Rodney Edwards who might be interested in assisting.
