Melling / Wray records ??

G'day,....     This puzzles me.
I have a pile of WILCOCK  births / Christenings  , and generally these are "born in Wray",  or "of Wray"   , and the christenings  are registered in Melling.
There,   all records cease.      In spite of my efforts, I have not been able to find  on-going records of marriages or deaths.    Or anything.
What am I missing?
Can any-one lead me out of this mire?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Pauline,    Thanks for the speedy respnse.
This is the story.
My problem starts with  William Wilcock of Melling, (married in Bolton le Sands)..Born 1730.
The preceding generations,...five of them ... are all noted as CHR Melling,   but of Wray.
My earliest is Richard 1566.     So there are plenty of them, and with the siblings there is a tribe of them.
But NO other details.
I actually visited Melling and the general area  ( not easy to do from Australia) and could not unearth any burial details , even.     NIL from burial records and grave lot details in Melling.   No sign of a Wilcock at all.
If they lived there, you would think that they must also die there.
So that's the story of the old iron pot.
Is that any clearer , do you think?

Have you tried looking at GENUKI?  There may be some leads there.  Perhaps you should also contact the local FHS. Beware confusion with the Melling near Liverpool.

Melling in Lonsdale would probably be the local church for Wray in those times. The marriages in Bolton-le-Sands seem surprising. Maybe there's a family link?

The registers for Melling have been transcribed by the LPRS. I'll have a look at them when I visit the record office tomorrow evening.

Tatham, Hornby, Gressingham and Tunstall, all within a couple of miles from Melling, also have ancient churches. Some of these have also been published by the LPRS. Their transcriptions are exellent - and well indexed.
