Pigdon of Northumberland
« on: Saturday 14 July 07 08:06 BST (UK) »
Would anyone be able to search further back for me on the Pigdons

The info I have
Tom Armstrong Pigdon born  5th March 1908 Father John Edward Pigdon Mother Mary Emily Pigdon ( Nee Armstrong )

From 1901 census J E P father was Edward Pigdon and Mother Ann Pigdon
I have Edward Pigdon in the 1891,1881,1871&1861 Census, 1861 census shows him living with his Grandfather John Matthews and his mother Martha Pigden ( note e instead of o ). Also I have Martha marrying a Robert Pigdon in 1855 mar qtr ( Robert died in 1859 Mar qtr ) I would like to get back from Robert if possible as I have an Australian leg of the family tree I am trying to tie into.

                                    Thanks Kath

Kath,

With Robert Pigdon not surviving long enough after his marriage to Martha Matthews to get onto a census ( thus no record of birthplace, age , occupation, etc.) it makes more difficult to identify the "right" Robert, from the candidates available.

Certificate of the Robert/Martha marriage will reveal Robert's occupation and his father's name and occupation, his address/residence in early 1855, and maybe his age.

Birth cert of Mary Ann and Edward Pigdon will also reveal Robert's occupation.

Over the River Tyne, on censuses 1841 ( 312/13-10-14) and 1851 (2403-132-62) in Swalwell, Co Durham, there is a Robert Pigdon, born 1829/30, son of couple John and Mary.

But this is only a possibility that needs corroboration.

Kath,

The marriage cert alone, would provide the required info.

No need for birth certs, unless you choose to have them !

Wish I was a bit sharper, I seem to buy birth and marriage certs. for everyone ( had a night school teacher who said "dont believe anything until you have it verified " ) He may have had shares in GRO

Thanks for your help Kath  :D :D

Kath,

I use census info and church records info to x-reference.

Any doubt, or crucial bit of info missing, I then buy the cert.

Consequently I can afford to holiday every year on the Riviera... The Blyth Riviera ! Sea temp is rarely below zero>

Hi.
I see from an earlier posting that you are researching the Pigdon family.  I am also "digging up" info about this family, my great grandmother was a Pigdon and lived in the Castle Ward area.  She also lived in the Swalwell district of Durham as mentioned my Mike Dixon.  Seems like the may all have been related.

I have also been in touch with another Pigdon in "sunny Scunny" so he is probably a relation of yours.  His arm of the family turned out to be my g. grandmothers brother.
