WW1 Solider Tidy Up
« on: Friday 13 July 07 14:48 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Would anyone be willing to tidy up a picture of my great-grandparents? I'm trying to ID my great-grandfathers regiment from his cap badge. Also, and I know this is a long shot, but if the signet ring on his finger could be made any clearer...that would be amazing!

Thanks in advance,

Sam

Thats a lovely wedding portrait!  8)

Obviously you know his name, have you looked on the nationalarchives for his medal card from WW1? That should tell you what regiment he was in.

Is the signet ring significant? are you expecting anything special to be on it?

modified, just seen your post on the Military board about the regiment

The ring could be significant - we have no knowledge of it after his wedding! I'm curious to see if it's possible to see any sort of emblem on it. When he married my Great-Grandmother his family weren't too pleased and the history from his side of the family is sketchy to say the least.

Hi Sam,

Best regards George
Scan at 300 plus for restores please. Scan at larger dpi for small photos. Don't forget to crop the scanner bed out! (Them's the white bits)

Wow - many thanks to you both. I've sent them to my mum and she's thrilled with them both. I didn't realise that my search for the cap badge ID would result in these lovely pictures.  :)

Does anyone know - is it possible for me to re-scan the picture, and focus on the cap badge. My knowledge of this kind of thing is non-existant.
