NEW KENT WAR MEMORIAL WEBSITE!
« on: Thursday 12 July 07 19:16 BST (UK) »
Please be advised that there is a brand new Kent wide war memorial website now online here -

http://www.kentfallen.com/

I have tried to get in touch with "Casalguidi" the moderator without any success. There doesn't seem to be any way of contacting him.

The new website is linked closely to this website (already listed on the links pages) - http://www.ashfordsfallen.com/

Enjoy...

Hi Kentfallen

Welcome to Rootschat

Thanks for the link.  It is asking for a username & password - do visitors need to register?

Don't quite understand what the problem is! I had the same message coming up!

I have had a word with my webhost 1&1 and the problem seems to be fixed now.

You will see that this site is by far the largest and most comprehensive website regarding Kent War Memorials and the like. Literally thousands of A4 pages and reports in PDF format.

We are the same people for ashfordsfallen.com and you will see that the two look the same.

It would be most helpful if you could place a link in your links pages alongside ashfordfallen.

If you have a question or need any assistance, you can send me a personal message

Wishing you all the very best.

Glad to see you have finally been able to have a look John.

I was rather concerned to hear of the problems accessing the site online. I have no idea what the problem was!

Hopefully the "Powers to Be" will now be able to appraise the site and finally place in on the Kent Military Resources Link?

Anyone wanting copies of any photo(s) on the site can send me a personal message and I will be delighted to send you large uncompressed versions.

Best Wishes to all family historians.

Hi Neil,

There certainly is a lot of good work here and must have taken a lot of time and effort, not to mention expense  ;)

I have linked to it from my lil' ol website  :D

Yes indeed John, it has taken 3 military historians about 4 years to compile. Are you local John? Had a look at your own effort - very interesting and easy to navigate. Too many confusing websites out there... ha ha.

This site (Rootschat) is brilliant too - fantastic to see people helping eachother like this... I didn't realise how close "you lot" stick together... I am begining to understand why the National Archives is always so full with family historians... ha ha.

I thought I might take this oppertunity to ask for a volunteer -

If you have a look at our website, you will see that we have submitted 18 cases to the Ministry of Defence for belated commemoration. So far we have had 11 approved which means that these brave men (who gave their lives for their country) will now have their names recorded as casualties of war and will all get new CWGC war graves.

We are presently working on an additional 30 or so cases which we hope to make cases for soon. All these names have been lifted off civic Kent War Memorials. We have been unable to locate them on the CWGC.

We want to recruit a "family historian" - someone who is interested in helping these men get the tribute they deserve. We are military historians not family historians. Often we struggle tracing births, deaths and marriages etc... It would greatly assist us if we could find someone who is prepared to help us out on a voluntary basis. All costs will be defrayed by us...

Probably the best thing to do in the first instance is have a look at our work on Ashfordfallen and Kentfallen.

If anyone is interested in helping these men get war graves then please send me a personal message

Best Wishes
Neil
