Hi Marion,

Just to help with further information for George, I'm assuming he is still alive in 1901 because there is this death listed:

Death, Mar qtr. 1908
George Castle Brian, age 70
Barnsley, Vol.9c, page 148

Hoping this is the right one .. also the birthplace should be Dodworth.

Regards,

Pels

I'm afraid once again I'm only putting two and two together but it might be possible that in 1901 George wasn't necessarily named with the surname Brian?

1871 census:
RG10/4647, folio 88, page 37

Yorkshire, Barnsley
19, Providence Street

George Castle, h. mar. 33, Engineman at Colly, b. Yorkshire, Dodworth
Ann, wife, mar, 26, Machinist, b. Yorkshire, Horsforth
John T, son, 3, b. Yorkshire, Barnsley
Jane, dau, 2 mths, b. Yorkshire, Barnsley

Kind regards,

Pels

Marriage, Jun qtr, 1870
George Castle
Ann Ebden
Barnsley, Vol.9c, page 143

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,243924.0.html

I'm hoping this should all fit in with the 1891 census details which Karenlee found yesterday. If this is the case we should also be looking for a George Castle in 1901.

I hope I'm making sense here?  ;D

Kind regards,

Pels

He is also listed in 1861 as George Castle, parents Edmund and Nancy?

RG9/3448, folio 76, page 16

Birth, Mar qtr, 1839
George Castle
Ecclesfield, Vol.22, page 128

How strange .. ..

Kind regards

Hello Pels,
thanks for all your lookups. george  is a tricky one - as you have found out for me. i would not have even  have thought he would just be george castle on 1901 census.
Thanks again  for all your help. :)

Birth: Jun qtr, 1871
Jane Bryan
Barnsley, Vol.9c. page 140

This appears to be the only likely registered birth for Jane. Marion I wish I hadn't found it though, because there appears to be a slightly older George Bryan born in Dodsworth.

No Jane Bryans though on the census returns - so the 1871 still looks quite likely.

Another alternative variation for the spelling though?

Regards,

Pels
