I need help ............ please !!

the only thing is... It is a rare person who would construct an "L" in that fashion

but I have seen a lot of different styles of writing on census returns so cannot say that an "L" would never be written that way

Several years ago I spent the better part of a summer (when not gardening) transcribing some archival papers, so I rather enjoyed this.

The real challenge for me was that there was really nothing for comparison.

Also, was reading signatures on the Ulster Covenant recently.  Some of them are equally puzzling.

I think the L is fine......grrr...I wish i knew how to draw on the image like you did...but I think that what is missing is part of the up stroke....
Think...from the bottom ..curve around and go up...big loop at the top...come down curl back at the bottom then straight to the next letter.

Strange isn't it how for a moment we see something in those letters, then it's gone, then it's back.  Reminds me of my childhood habit of finding faces in the wallpaper.
