going back and looking at the whole thing, I think the name at the top was put on by the receiver or someone else as the writing and pen is slightly different, and the 'As I appeared........' bit was the only original writing, as the subject and the person it was sent to, knew who he was, so no name was needed.

I know what you mean    That was my very first thought.  The chap in the pic is writing to or giving the picture  to a 'Miss Allife' and says 'as I appeared etc'..

are you sure it's his name Annie?
