oh, good gosh, Karen, you're still a young thing...Haha...at least we were taught to handwrite...I'd have taught my son myself had I known he wasn't getting any help at school...Guess they figure with computers and keyboards it's an old art... ::)
Sept. was what I saw, but still thought it was Tue Sept 98...so not entirely crazy, then...and don't we usually say On Sept. not in? Heehee...throw another wrench in there while I'm at it.... ;) :P J.J.

well ok I'll let you have the Sept but .....

"at Omdurman" then the next word is definitely not IN but ON - there's a clear circle in that word on the end of the line.

So the beginning of the next line should be 2nd or something like that but it doesn't look like it.

but looked at an old calendar for 1898 at http://www.hf.rim.or.jp/~kaji/cal/cal.cgi?1898

Any luck with the suggestion of the map of Egypt for possible names.
