Smart thinking Annie,

That would certainly help if such a list exists. I have been googling but not getting anywhere. As to census - if we could be confident of an unusual Christian Name or Surname that may help. I have not come up with anything working along the lines of what I think I see. Trouble is the more I look at it the more I wonder if the surname even begins with an A. The top loop of all the other A's end on the right side of the stroke. This one goes way past it  :-\

Kris  :D

PS: Karen what does hubby see the surname as?

Hi Kris,

Have been mulling over whether the first bit is a name or a designation.

When I look at it long enough I come up with Vms but that means nothing to me.

Also, if this is a signature, some ordinary letters may be exaggerated - I will keep mulling it over.

Elius ...?  Clevis?  ( I saw Chris , also, karen...)...

For the last name his pen left the page so often...could you focus on just that in the scan, annie, and maybe bump up the d.p.i & contrast?

Then maybe make our weather a little better...

and find my mom's missing cousin...hehe

Hope it helps

I'd definitely say Chris for the first name.  I think the surname begins with A, but the rest of it is very difficult!
