lookups please

Hi , i have been looking for the , lowrie family dating back from 1870,
I have a john lowrie b1850/51 in according to 1901 census (for the middlesbrough area) was born in glasgow , i have his marraige cert which says his father was john lowrie a caster was deceased when john was married in 1889.

To anyone who might be able to help , i have a few census with john b1850/51 on them but nothing from when he was married , also the marraige cert says john 1850/51 was a widower .
I have spent a lot of time and money on different sites trying to find john but to no avail so i would now ask for your help .

Hi Sue
You say you have John Lowrie (1850/51) marriage certificate.  Can you tell us the name of his spouse? and her age at marriage.  It helps when searching the census returns.

Hi ,

Yes i have marr cert , but it is of his second wife , her name was hannah maria jones /nee french. she came from dowlais wales , they married in 1889 in middlesbrough  north yorks , i have loads of info about them from when they got married but nothing on john before that time .

I can tell you that on the 1891 census for middlesbrough john's place of birth was down as newcastle , but then on the 1901 census it said place of birth glasgow scotland.

I know it is the same man, as he is with the same family .
Confusing or what ?lol , not only did the name lowrie get spelt loads of different ways but birth place was registered different as well . This is were all my problems lie .

Hope you can help or point me in the right direction , i will say i have looked on all sites i could think of and spent lots of money wasting credits on might be's .

Can you think of any specific lookups I could do for you from the Scottish BMDs starting at 1855 till present?
I'm at Strathclyde Genealogy Center in Glasgow on Friday and could squeeze in a lookup during my my own research.

I have got some info on a family with the head  being a john lowrie and a son john lowrie , from barony , but not sure how to verify it .
