Eliz"Hara of Ballenrin, Antrim, completed
« on: Wednesday 11 July 07 00:12 BST (UK) »
I am searching for any history of Elizabeth Ellen Harris, born 1872 in Stratford upon Avon, she married David O'Hara of Ireland in Norsewood, New Zealand on 19/12/1888.
I do know that Elizabeth's parents were John Harris and Sarah Perkins, and David's parents were Henry O'Hara and Jane Curley of Ballenrin? Ireland, am not certain of the Ballenrin bit as I googled it and nothing came up.
Can anyone add to this history with any more ancestors.

Hi King William,

I live in Hawkes Bay & can tell you that Ashley Clinton, Waipawa, Norsewood & Woodville are all within a short distance of one another. If you knew where they were buried I would be happy to check out any graves for you.

Regards,
Kiwiciusey.
My email address is not working at the moment sorry.

Thank you all - this a very late reply, I am doing this history for a friend and she has seen their graves in Norsewood. I am hoping to add to the list of ancestors as this line does not go back very far, in fact this is where it ends. I am told that Ireland is notoriously difficult to trace any history from and the O'Hara line from Antrim has yielded zilch.
Thanks to all.

Don't give up on finding the O'Haras... from IGI:
Henry O'Hara & Jane McCurly
1.son born 14 Jan.1865 Glenwhirry dist., Co.Antrim.
2.Margaret Jane O'Hara born 5 July 1867 Glenwhirry dist., Co.Antrim
3.Isabella Ann O'Hara born 17 Aug.1869 Co.Antrim.
4.Hugh O'Hara born 5 Aug.1871 Co.Antrim.
5.William O'Hara born 7 Nov.1873 Co.Antrim.

From the above it would seem the O'Haras lived somewhere in Glenwhirry area. Birth certificates will list exact place of birth (townland) which will be an extremely important bit of information when searching Irish records.

Glenwhirry Parish is in Barony of Lower Antrim and Poor Law Union of Ballymena.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Thank you to all who replied - it really gets me going on this line and I see that I called Jane "Curley" instead of McCurley, she sounds more like  bagpipes than shamrocks
Thanks - Robin

Common with a lot of Irish ancestors to drop the Mc on arrival in Australia and New Zealand.
