What are these regiments?
« on: Tuesday 10 July 07 21:00 BST (UK) »
Could someone identify the two regiments from the cap badges in the two photographs.  Although Australian residents three brothers enlisted in UK forces.  One in the DLI, a second Northumberland Fusiliers, and the third unknown hence the query.
Also what regimental cap is the youngster wearing?
Hodgson/Pounder/Porter - New Forest, N. Yks.
Lee/Allinson/Shield/Porter/Horn(e) - Teesdale.
Lo(a)ngstaff - Bedale/Staindrop.
Raisbeck/Shaw/Chapman - Hawnby & Cowton.
Jewson - Norfolk & Tyneside. Marley - Liverton.
Lilley - Lincs. & Staindrop.

Top one possibly Royal Engineers??

If you post their names you may get more info from people on the site.

Have you checked the National Archives Medal Index Cards?

As Addy has already said, the cap badge is that of the Royal Engineers. If the name of Huitson under the photograph of the soldier was his surname then there are two by that name who are listed on the national archives site for 1st ww campaign medals (medal index card) one by the name of Thomas A. Huitson (Sapper) and the other is William H. Huitson (Driver).

Many thanks for the replies.
I would agree that the badges are RE and Leeds Pals.
The gentleman shown is in fact William Henry Huitson as advised.
The youngster is believed to be his son wearing his father's cap.  No doubt research may show that William may have enlisted in the Leeds Pals and transfered to the RE.
The enquiry was posted on behalf of a third party with a common ancestor, hence my lack of basic information at the time of posting.  My apologies for the lack in my initial research.  :P
