I need some help to find a connection
« on: Monday 09 July 07 20:09 BST (UK) »
For the last year or more I've been trying to find a connection between my Gt Gt Gt Grandfather Thomas Heritage and another Thomas Heritage who appears on a persons tree I ran into over a year ago.  I don't know when or where my Thomas was born or if he had any siblings.  I do know that he married a Maria Adams in 1806 but that's about it.

My friend with the Heritages on his tree has the following information:

Thomas Heritage - Bapt. Sep 1779, Fillongley, Warwick, England
John Heritage - Bapt. Jun 1785, Fillongley, Warwick, England
Mary Heritage - Bapt. Sep 1789, Fillongley, Warwick, England
Samuel Heritage - Bapt. Apr 1792, Fillongley, Warwick, England

We think that his Thomas Heritage and mine are the same person.  The reason we think this is that his Mary Heritage was married in the same church a couple of year after my Thomas Heritage was married.  We have copies from the Pallot's marriage index.  They we both married at St. Andrews, Holborn.  My Thomas married a Maria Adams in 1806.  His Mary was married in the same church a few years later.

Sorry for the length of this.  So, that's my problem.  I've been trying to prove or disprove that these two Thomas Heritages are the same person.  Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can do this?  I'd appreciate any help I can get.  I think I've hit a brick wall on this one.
Looking for information on the Heritage Family in Hackney/Mile End/Islington/Clerkenwell/Holborn areas.  Also found I have connections to the Bacon, Bissmire, Checkley, Coe, Cunningham, Day, Delley, Gillott, Nott and White families.

Okay, so I guess no one has any suggestions on how I can either prove or disprove this connection.  I'll just continue trying as I go along.

I'm assuming that your Thomas didn't live long enough to be recorded in a census - is that right?

A good source for establishing family relationships is often wills - if you are lucky they will mention siblings and nieces or nephews in a way which can prove the connections.  Have you investigated the availability of any will?

Hi Anna,

Thanks for the response.  I don't have access to the census's other then the 1881 and I'm sure he didn't live that long.  As for wills, I wouldn't know where to look.  I'm only able to do my searches over the internet as I live in Canada.

Cheers,
Brian

Do you have access to Parish records through a local LDS history Centre? You could turn up some useful info there.

At first sight it seems a very tenuous link; Holborn was a large and popular church.
What else do you know about your Thomas (children; profession; death)?

I have now looked through your old posts. You appear to have traced back to a Robert Heritage, b 1812 Holborn, who is likely to be one of the children of Thomas and Maria Heritage. Their other children are:
Edward/Edmond (1810); Thomas (1813 & 1807); Maria Ann (1809) and Deborah (1815).
Everything so far is linked to the Holborn area. Is this correct?
One small piece of evidence in favour of the Warwickshire connection is that Samuel (b1792) is living with his wife and family in Hackney, and has clearly been there for at least 13 years.

1851
HO107/1506/206/20
4 Queens Court, Wells St, Hackney
Samuel Heritage, 59, wheeler's smith, b Fillingley, Warwicks.
Margaret H, 38, washerwoman, b Brecon, S Wales
William H, 13, b Hackney
Eliza H, 4 b Hackney

In 1841 the children were Margaret, 6; William 3; Eliza 1; all born in county.

Hi Richard,

I'm sorry I wasn't around to be able to respond to your posts.  Business has kept me away from my searching.  You are correct in that Robert Heritage, my gt. gt. grandfather, is one of the sons of Thomas and Maria Heritage.  Also correct is that all the Heritage clan that I've found are linked to the Holborn/Clerkenwell area.

Thank you for that additional piece of information about Samuel.  I wasn't aware that he lived in the Hackney area.  I've been spending so much time looking at my Heritage clan and the Holborn area, I didn't think to look at my friend's Heritage clan and their whereabouts.

I appreciate all the help and any further suggestions/information you might have.

Cheers,
Brian
