Hi Mary,

I think my grandmother is your Aunt (Patricia).

I have information regarding McElhinney's at Tulnaree back to around 1820 but it is more recent history that I am having problems with.

Do you have any information on your grandmother, Esther McElwain who was married to Willie McELhinney?  I can not find any sources for her or her family.  Anything you have would be appreciated.

Simon

I also have a McElhinney connection although I'm not sure if there is a connection to any of the above families, details as follows:

My G Grandmother was Matilda McElhinney born c1874, Married my G Grandfather Josiah Houston on 30th Aug 1898 at St Columbs Cathedral Derry, and they lived at Bogstown (Steelstown area) in Derry, her father is listed as James McElhinney Occ: Labourer, I believe she died a few years later in the early 1900's (def before 1911) and my G Grandfather later remarried.

I believe this McElhinney family were from Muff Co Donegal, My Grandmother Mary Matilda Houston was born on 13th October 1900 and present at birth is listed a Mary McElhinney with place of residence given as Muff, this may have been my G Grandmothers Mother or Sister?

Any info on this McElhinney line welcome!

Hi There,  Found a Matilda McElhinney b 15 March 1874, in Clondahorky East Church of Ireland.
Townland listed as Clonmore (aka Cloonmore) Father noted as John and Mother Elizabeth.

Let me know if this could be your line, as there are siblings to Matilda.

Regards
Anne

Matilda died 1914 and her mother was Elizabeth/Betty Irwin according to submitted I.G.I. record.- 2 other extracted records there give mother as Elizabeth Irwin.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Dont think this is the correct line as Matilda's fathers name is given as James on her Marriage Cert, Thanks Anyway!

Thanks Aghadowey, Matilda's married name was Houston, there is a record of a Matilda Jane Houston on the civil registration index who died jan - mar 1903, and showing as born 1873, I believe this may be her death record but unsure so I haven't requested the certificate yet.

Have you found your Matilda in 1901 census yet? if not, it should be added to 1911 on National Archives website soon (latest estimate in mid-2010).

Yes, the 1911 census has been online for a while but it's the 1901 census that is going to be added 3 June 2010

Hi Marvin and TheLochman,

I am trying to get information about my great grandmother who would also be either a grandmother or greatgrand mother of you as well (I think).  My grandmother (Patricia) and Ethna Davenport where sisters.  I know that there was always mention of The Lochman even with my mother.

I know that my greatgrand mother was Esther McElwain but I am not able to find any further information on her.  I will be across in Carn later in the summer and would like to spend some time tracing family history.

Do you know if there are any McElwains around Carn?  I thought I had read somewhere that they may be from Fahan.

Any information you may be able to share would be appreciated.

Simon
