Walter G Beals - Florence K Cowdrey 1919
« on: Monday 09 July 07 13:30 BST (UK) »
I believe Florence is my Grandmothers long lost sister born Florence Katherine Cowdray, Singleton, Sussex 1884 to James and Henrietta Cowdray. In the 1901 census she is living with her married sister Jessie Barber, Edmonton (ancestry- Condray!). Also known as Flora Kate, any help appreciated.

The cambs link is that they were married Wisbech June 1919. I am hoping someone may be researching this family. Flora Kate was one of eleven children. The youngest Hettie b 1891 was taken by her mother Henrietta when she ran off in 1891 to Burnham, Bucks with a man from East Dean and was renamed Norrell. This is my skeleton in the closet as Gran(Annie Cowdray) said she only had three younger siblings. There were later two half siblings. My gran bought up the younger children and Flora/Florence went to live with Annie's older sister Jessie Barber.
I also have contact with several Cowdray/Norrel descentdents and have photos, certificates and email addresses to pass on. Below is a photo of my Gran Annie and husband Frank.
Any help or guidance would be appreciated as it would be nice to reunite this family, thanks,

So are you, initially, looking for children of the Beals/Cowdray marriage?

If so, have you looked through the full birth indexes? Free to search on ancestry, and for the years you will be searching through they will give the mum's maiden name, so will be easy to spot possible children of this marriage

Also, have you got the marriage cert, to try and confirm it is the right person, as your first post seems to have an element of doubt.

Hi,
thank you for your reply. I am hoping to search for children of this marriage tonight, however as my husband and I are disabled money will stretch so far even though I work and the certificate will have to wait. Interested to see your Sussex conection of Edmonds. I live in Sussex and grew up with a Pete and Leslie Edmonds here in Singleton.
Back to my search, I suppose in a way I am hoping someone related down the line from Florence or Flora Kate as she was known, may see this posting and get in touch and share photos. Its sad this family became split up and I would so like to reunite them. Below is the half brother Charles Norrel and wife Amelia, that Flora never knew.
