Hi counrty

Am not finding George's marriage on Scotland's People. This could be because it was not established church of Scotland or possibly could have been a marriage by Proclamation.

Am assuming nina didn't find one either on the IGI.

If you are resaonably sure of the place and year you could try the Mational Archives Scotland who do hold some OPR records for non C of S.

Cheers

On SP there are 10 records of children born to George Peat and Jean Wilkie between 1802 and 1825 all in the Campsie area

There is also one under George Pet and Jane Wilky again in Campsie

Hi,

one of my Elders married a daughter of George (John) Peat. Here are my notes

The parents of Jean Peat are John (or George) Peat, an agricultural labourer and Jean Wilkie

In the 1871 Census Peter Elder has a daughter and her children staying with him. The daughter is Abigail Russell - she was Abigail Smith, the daughter of Jean Peat and Andrew Smith.

Jean Peat and Andrew Smith were married in 2nd June 1840 in Barony in Glasgow. Abigail was born on 5 March 1841, also in Barony

Jean Peat married Peter Elder on 28 Dec 1846 in Glasgow.

Hope this info is of some help.

countryozy,

Do you use the IGI (International Genealogical Index) on the FamilySearch site at:
http://www.familysearch.org

A parent search on the IGI (enter George Peat in the father's name boxes and Jean Wilkie in the mother's name boxes, and select British Isles as the region) brings up the 11 baptisms (which sancti found on ScotlandsPeople).

Looking in the Family History Library catalogue on FamilySearch (or at the Batch Numbers on the Hugh Wallis site) quickly indicates the likely reason why the marriage is not in the IGI.  The Campsie marriage records stop at 1734 and then don't start again until 1803; given that George & Jean had their first child in 1802, it seems that they were probably married pre-1803.
