Not a problem Hepburn and that's a great website Ricky.

I've bookmarked it for when I get the records so can work out exactly what he would have been doing.  My mum was an ATS driver too so I'm hoping to get her records as well.  That was how they met.

Hi

He probably served in North Africa as a Gunner like my Father-in-Law. LAA is Light Anti-Aircraft Battery, he was in the 31st/11 LAA Battery. George Moore Cooper.
He might of served in a unit of the 1st Army, it would've been involved 'Operation Torch' and the subsequent operations in North Africa.
My Father-in-Law went from North Africa to fight in campaigns in Italy sometime in July 43'.

Hope this helps
Pel.

Hi Hepburn

113 Bty., 27 Lt A.A.Regiment., Royal Artillery

Is the 113 Battery which was part of the 27th Light Anti Aircraft Regiment, Royal Artillery

The Regiment sailed to Noth Africa, leaving Glasgow, on 15th August 1941, arriving at Suez on 1st October. The Regiment was part of 12th Anti-Aircraft Brigade and as such was responsible co-ordinating ground defence of airfields as well as Anti Aircraft defence in general.

I am currently working on researching the history of the regiment, which comprised of 107, 113 and 149 Batteries, as my Grandfather served with 107 Battery, which was captured at the fall of Tobruk in June 1942. 113 Battery did not suffer the same fete, and went on to see action in northern europe.

Some further information can be found at http://www.27lightantiaircraft.co.uk/index.html but this work in progress and I haven't got as far as looking too much at 113 Battery.

It is possible to view the war diaries for the Battery at the public records office, Kew, which would give you a great deal more information.

Chris

27 LAA Regt:

I can add that this unit was formed in Nottinghamshire on 28 Aug 39 and consisted of 6/2, 107, 113/128 and 149 Batteries.  The Unit was reduced to cadre at Tobruk on 14 Mar 44, placed in suspended animation on 4 Feb 46 but reconstituted at 527 LAA/SL (Searchlight) Regt RA (TA) on 1 Jan 47.
