The Butt family
« on: Friday 06 July 07 20:46 BST (UK) »
Hello again rootschatters everywhere!
I was wondering if someone would be able to find Albert Butt and his family probably on the 1901 census, with his children,Albert James,Gladys, and Violet Jessie.
I'm afraid i don't have a lot more than that to go on at the moment.
I do know Albert was a postman in sheffield, after moving from Dorset some time earlier to find work.
Thanks for your time,Phil.

Hi

Do you have the 1891 census of Albert and his family.  It would give us something to go on.

From FreeBMD it looks as though Violet and Gladys weren't born till after the 1901 census.

I think this is the family in 1891:

piece 3834 e.d. 48 folio 81
21ct 1h Corby St.
(Brightside Bierlow)

Albert BUTT 27 fitter's labourer DOR Blandford
Clara BUTT 23 DOR Blandford
Charles BUTT Son 5 scholar DOR Parkstone
Charles FORD lodger Unm 28 fitter YKS Leeds

and this is the family in the 1901 index as BULL  :)

1901 census
census place: Brightside Bierlow (Sheffield)
Albert Bull   37 Boiler Firer Engine Tenter Silver Refruers  Dorset Blandford
Clara Bull   33 Dorset Blandford
Charley Bull 15 Telegraph Messenger Dorset Blandford
May Bull 9 Yorks Sheffield
Albert Bull   4 Yorks Sheffield
Clara Bull   2 Yorks Sheffield

4 year old Albert would be Albert James:

GRO Births DEC Qtr 1896
BUTT  Albert James
Sheffield  9c 571

Hugh

Good morning

On another site the family is indexed as Batt in 1901 and I think that Dad worked at a Silver Refinery (rather than a “Refruers“)

This might be Albert earlier.........

An Albert Butt aged 17 from Blandford is an Apprentice Draper living with and working for a Charles Walling at 145 Kentish Town Road, St Pancras. He is indexed as Brett but it clearly says Butt on the original document. You can see the full transcription here....
