Thanks Sylvia,
I have just had some information from a New Zealand researcher of Woon who said that Jane Hambley who married Richard Woon was  previously married to a Trestrail and was a widow when she married Richard.  I have no proof of this.

I have found a Jane Hembly married to a Robert Trestrail in London in 1790, but there is no proof that this is my Jane.  It does open up more research for me although I was not aware of a London link.

Cheers,
Heather

Aha Heather  ;D

Now I see the 1799 marriage but this does not fit in with children being born from 1773 you mentioned initially ???

Richard WOON = Jane TRESTRAIL 1 Sep 1799 Truro St Mary

Cheers Kris

Thanks Kris,
I believe the Richard Woon and Jane Pethirick m 1769 are the parents of the 1770's children and that their son Richard married Jane Trestrail (nee Hambley).

My NZ contact says Jane Trestrail was a widow but I have no proof.  That info was in a family history book she has of her side of the family (it was an appendage in the back).  I cant find Jane Hambleys birth although according to other researchers it is possibly around 1765 and in Truro Cornwall and she had a sister who married a Pell/s.

Cheers,
Heather

Hi Heather,

Well that explains it then  ;D I was confused as to how she could have been born Hambley, not married to a Woon until 1799 after first having married a Trestrail yet having Woon Children from 1773.

Now I can confirm

Richard WOON of Redruth = Jane PETHIRICK 9 Oct 1769 in Kenwyn

We can only see index entries for this 1799 marriage which does not list a marital status. I would suggest you contact the CRO (who will provide and further information from that entry in the hope it may list her as "widow" or "Mrs Trestrail" confirming she was previously married - though if this was the case her maiden name will not be listed, only that she was a widow or Mrs Trestrail.) or the OPC who does not have those years online but is willing to undertake lookups. Hopefully the entry will confirm she was a widow at time of marriage, and you are on the right track.

OK Heather,

Now there is a Jane HAMBLEY baptised 31 Aug 1766 St Clement parents Richard and Elizabeth

Richard HAMBLEY = Eliz TRISTREAL(TRESTRILL) 28 Apr 1751 St Clement.

mmm Now doesn't that name sound horribly similar to Jane Hambley's alleged first marriage

Besides Jane this couple do appear to have had a daughter Elizabeth 6 May 1764. Only see sons (John 20 Jan 1754, Richard 14 dec 1755, Thomas 29 Jul 1758- 22 Aug 1758, William 18 May 1760) besides these two girls and admittedly the daughter Elizabeth may have married John CLEMOW 19 Jun 1792 in Truro (IGI extracted record lists her as aged 29 at marriage) I don't see any births listed to this couple but again if he died no second marriage to a Pell  :-\

I can't see anything to fit on the IGI or marriage index (said to be complete) and with the absence of a Hambley/Trestrail union or the Hambley/Pells or even Clemow/Pells Union anywhere in Cornwall perhaps these sisters did journey far to wed............Kris  :D

Hello,

I have a Hambly marrying into my Pearce ancestry around 1792, Ann Hambly came from Poundstock, this is I believe not the Poundstock on the coast near Bude but a hamlet near Cardinham, which is near Bodmin.

You could try this line.  Let me know if you need further information.

Thanks Anne,
cant find a connection yet, it looks as though Richard Woon may have married Jane Trestrail who was a widow, possible maiden name Hambley.  I will be in touch again if I can find a connection.

Cheers,
Heather

Heather, apologies for coming late to this.
I have a Woon ancestor Jonathan Woon baptised 22 july 1773, son of a Jane & William Woon.
Not your Richard but time specific and they could be brothers.
owever Note all the Woons I found were in Falmouth (not Redruth) for several generations.
My branch moved via Dartmouth and finished up in the East end of London.
You may want to try looking in Falmouth as well as Redruth.
