1851c Todmorden area
« on: Tuesday 03 July 07 14:39 BST (UK) »
Hi, looking for a Sarah Cannon, she would be about 4/5 in 1851.  All I know about her is that she married a John Garvey
in 1869 and on her marr cert., her father is named as Denis
Cannon.

If anyone can help I would be very grateful, thanks.

Josie

Hi

Where did you get the Todmorden info from?

The 1871 has 3 John Garvey's married to a Sarah and only 2 were in Lancashire

John Garvey 20 b Manchester
Sarah 20 b Manchester

John Garvey 26 b Ireland
Sarah Garvey 24 b Ireland
Thomas Garvey 2 b Oldham

I noticed that John & Sarah were married in Oldham and her age in 1871 would match her being 4/5 in 1851

Hi,  thanks for your reply.  I had a reply from Genes Reunited about a Sarah Cannon in Todmorden.  I have been trying to find info on her for a couple of years now without much success.

I assume she came over between 1841-1851 but cannot find any family connections other than her fathers name on the marr cert.

Regards  Josie

Hi

There is no Sarah Cannon in any county on the 1851 with a father Dennis

I have done a wildcard search for all sar** can** with a father den** which should have covered any possible mis-transcriptions of christian/surnames

I did the same for 1861 and it turned up a Dennis & Mary Ann Canan and family born Ireland and living in Cumberland but their daughter Sarah was b Ireland 1857

Hi Carole, thanks a lot for trying to find something about Sarah Cannon, I think I will have to face up to it that I've come to a dead end there.  There is no family left to ask and I've no idea where about in Ireland she came from.

My mother did tell me it was Cork but I've had no luck there either, don't know what district/area.  I keep telling myself to forget it, but it keeps coming back niggling at me!!

Once again, thanks a lot, cheers,  Josie
