« on: Tuesday 03 July 07 00:36 BST (UK) »
Anyone have Hilditch ancestors in Audley, I've traced most lines originating from Thomas Hilditch 1788 and Sarah Green married 27.2. 1808. using a combination of bmd, IGI and ancestry. Stuck at Thomas Hilditch's parents ? Thomas 1762 and Elizabeth 1756. ??? any further info appreciated or enquiries .. I'll try Nel

Hi Nel,

Not sure if this will be any help but I have a Thomas Hilditch born 1814 in Burslem, Staffs. No idea on brothers' and sisters' or parents for that matter. But Thomas Hilditch and Sarah Green could be his parents? a long shot but you never know.

My Thomas b.1814 married Sarah b.1811 (died 1846) they had numerous children (only one of which i can trace) and then he reappears in cheshire with his oldest son and is involved with his landlady! Whom which he had 2 children. I would be grateful to know if my Thomas fits in with your family.

I don't think theres a link..... My Thomas and Sarah did have a son Thomas but not till 1831 and they lived in Audley parish. Sarah would have been about 44y when she had him. Their oldest son George was born in 1808 Nel good luck in finding your Hilditches, whose knows ... extended family???

Rob sorry it's taken so long ... no link yet, the dates don't fit. I think my Hilditch's appeared in Audley before 1750 or earlier possibly from Cheshire. I'm looking at Igi's and trying to piece it together, but it's hard going. I have mention of Hilditch from various books and publications from the local area ( Audley, Talke) as early as 1660 but don't know if they are ancestors of mine. I think I'm back to Thomas  c.1762 who married Elizabeth, His Father may have been John. I think there were two Thomas' born in Audley born at a similar time, which confuses the issue. My Hilditch seem to have been publicans in Audley also butchers and shoemakers. Hope we can collaborate... there must be a link Nel

I now think that Thomas must have been born earlier than stated above but cannot find an igi for him. From other info I now think he was born in 1755. He married Elizabeth Walley c. 1780 but again no igi. Children Jane, Mary, Thomas, William, Samuel and John.

I now have reason to believe that Thomas Hilditch was born around 1755 but the local historical society who has transcripts of births at St James Audley, which I checked, has no record of his birth. Also fiche at the library, Hanley, although it was very difficult to read also has no Thomas born circa 1755. A Thomas Hilditch died in 1822 in Audley, aged 67 yrs. He was ( according to another source) the publican of The Shoulder of Mutton public house, which stood on the site of The Butchers Arms, still there, I had a beer there last week! I have also seen his grave in St James Church yard, with his wife Elizabeth. His son Samuel ran The Butchers arms from about 1834. Any ideas what I can check now???? Need a link to his parents.
