this is so close. I know their were a lot of shepherds in market rasen about that time. my Martha definatly married William Smith. I think she was the daughter of John shepherd and Ann Ash. Martha was born in Normanby le Wold close to M arket Rasen

Hi
Hate to butt into a family party, but I think Lynnuk's Martha was born in 1794 in Rothwell. She was living in Nettleton Road, Caistor in 1851 with Richard Coulson and also her brother Stephen who was born in Ashby cum Fenby in 1788, and she died in 1868 aged 73. Stephen was my husband's gt gt gt Grandfather and emigrated to the USA in 1851 (aged 62).
Can't help Janet though.

hi  pauline
now i am confused ???...my g/g/grandmother mary coulson, born 1827 in owmsby was the daughter(i assumed) of henry coulson and martha shepherd. You mentioned martha was with a richard coulson in 1851, was this a son?.
The reason im sure my mary was the daughter of henry and martha is on one of the census..sorry cant remember which one at the minute, there was a lodger william coulson born 1842, marys brother i assumed. He was lodging with mary and her husband charles dobson born 1825

Hi to both
I am so pleased that one of our Martha's have been discovered. I know my Martha did marry William Smith. MAY 1849 There are times when the spelling of her surname has changed to Sheppard.
She is listed in 1841 living in Market Rasen as a farm servant aged 14
I  now believe she was born about 1826 in Normanby le Wold to Thomas Shepherd and Anne Coulbeck but it is not 100% CERTAIN.
She certainly lived in Aisthorpe near Lincoln with William and had at least 3 children her daughter Elisabeth became my g grandmother

Hi all
I'll have tchecked the census and it is defintely Richard Coulson. Perhaps it's just a coincidence and not your Martha after all,
