I have a copy of "East Lothian Westernmost Parishes Monumental Inscriptions" by Alison Mitchell, Sheila Duffy & Conrad W Nystrom if anyone wants a lookup - it covers Tranent, Seton Chapel, Prestonpans churchyard, Prestonpans West and Ormiston Old (West Byres).

Hello Jo,
I was wondering if there were MI's for my 4x great grandparents, John McLeod b c1792, died 10 Feb 1867 Prestonpans and Ann McLeod (nee Thomson) born c1796 and died c1840 Prestonpans.
Regards,
Margaret

Dear Margaret
Visited yesterday, there are 2 marker stones with "J McL" on them. these were in amongst graves dated around 1860. The grave next to these is for the 'Traill' family. Interestingly David's son Sinclair was married to Elizabeth Johnstone, her mother was Elizabeth Traill.
I don't know why there were 2 stones. There may be 2 plots, perhaps my question below answers this.
Can you confirm that John's father was a John McLeod Married to Mary Fraser. They Were from Inveresk and and a son William in 1790. They were married in North Leith in 1787.

My great-grandmother Helen Johnson b. 1871 emigrated from Prestonpans to Brisbane, Queensland, Australia when she was about 4-5 years old (1875), with her parents and siblings.

Her grand-parents were John YOUNG and Catherine (nee LANCY), They resided (1861 & 1871) at Morrishaven/Dolphingstone Old Toll House, Prestonpans.   The other grandparents were Richard and Alison JOHNSON (b. c1801) who resided (1841) at Stobhill Engine, Cockpen, Midlothian - by 1861, Richard was residing with son Robert at Morrisonshaven.

Wondering whether you have an entry in MI for these people?
Thanks,

Brenda

Dear Margaret
I am interested in the above enquiry I believe these are also my grandparents via Sinclair, David, and George.  I have not much research but am willing to help if I can from Edinburgh.
Best regards
Colin
