Marriage at St Ethelburga, Bishopsgate
« on: Saturday 30 June 07 07:32 BST (UK) »
I'm hoping some kind person may be able to help with with further details with regards to the following marriage-

Samuel Clinton & Fanny Phillips 26/4/1798 at St Ethelburga, Bishopsgate.

I would be grateful for any additional names included on the parish records if anyone has this access to this info ie parents names/witnesses etc

These are possibly my 4x great grandparents although i'm curious with the London link as my leads so far have been in Hertfordshire.

Many thanks in advance.

Helo, Cheryl,

The records for the church of St Ethelburga are held at the Guildhall Library on film no MS4239, but unfortunately the marriage entries for this early date do not give much info.  They give the names of the couple, whether they were OTP( of this parish) or the parish they came from, status ( single or wid.) date, name of the officiating clergy, names of two witmesses but no other info like parent's names.

The library will send copies of records, ( a charge will be made), their address is>>

Corporation of London, Guildhall Library,
Aldermanbury,
London,
EC2P  2EJ

Such a pity this lovely tiny church was destroyed in the IRA bombing of the City but I believe plans are afoot to rebuild.

Hi Meliora

Many thanks for this.  I'll certainly be in touch with the Guildhall Library now.  I'm still quite a novice at family history and although i'm pretty much ok with my local area, when my branches have spread outside of this,  that's when i'm out of my depth!!

Regards

Hi
I have just joined this great site.
My great grandfather was Clinton born in Bennington village in Herts. Would this be a connection for you?
Regards

Hi Meliora
Thank you for your quick response.
Ernest J Clinton was born in Bennington 22/7/1873. He married Eliza Wiles in 1898 in Hertford. He was a horsekeeper according to the 1901 census. They had 4 children. William James, Emily Elizabeth, Arthur George and Nora May. He died on 4th April 1941. His father was called Joseph Clinton and his mother was Harriet Cox.
I hope this extra info helps.
Many thanks
Diane (injection2u)

Hi Diane
I can't see an obvious match but I haven't yet fully explored my Clinton line. I'll bear this is mind and it could be that the link is a bit further back. I'll certainly be in touch if I do uncover a connection at a later stage.
