Hadn't planned to go back soon but i pass it most weekends.
I'll make a point of looking sometime over the next few weeks when I've got a spare hour.
Any specific names you want me to look for or just any old Polloks (rhyming slang?)

Any old Polloks that you can find!!

I don't actually know if any of them are there. If they are, I would imagine their stones to be a bit on the posh side as they were a family of 'landed gentry' and had various properties and lands all over Glasgow and Edinburgh but please don't exclude any of the more humble ones.

The ones I would be particularly interested in would be:

William Pollok died c1829, his wife Ann Whyte died c1830
Their son William Pollok, date of death unknown
Their son John Reid Pollok, date of death unknown
Their son Major Robert Pollok died 23.9.1895
Their son Walter Whyte Pollok, Writer & J.P., died 1899

+ as I said, any other Polloks (or Pollocks) you happen to come across.

Thanks Dave

Anne.

Would this cemetary cover those living in Aytoun Road, Pollokshields. Died 1910 and ~1949?

Sorry completely ignorant regarding these things. All a hell of a learning curve.
Cheers.

Unlikely, Pollokshields a fair bit away.
What names are you interested in though and I'll look the next time I go.
I also still plan to visit cemeteries in Pollokshaws / Pollokshields but having difficulty finding the time.

Hi Dave,

I was up in Glasgow for a couple of days working at the Fopp stores, only managed to have time for a couple of hrs checking out Pollokshields, most of which involved me getting lost.  I'd be grateful if you could keep an eye open, I'm looking for Archibald Bryson d.~1949 and Ellen Bryson d.1910.  Thanks very much.

Thanks.

Just a quick note to say that i'm nipping down to the churchyard shortly and will look for all the names mentioned.
Won't have access to the computer for a few days but will lt you know the results
on Tuesday or Wednesday.
Have camera with me and will photograph any stones that may be of interest.

Robeena, not sure if you are aware that Joyce (breac) is also looking at the Edgars in Cathcart...... http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,255668.msg1424316.html#msg1424316

Hi Dave,
I actually asked Joyce if she had access to the Cathcart Burial Register not realising that she would post.  Joyce and I correspond regarding other names. Thanks for any help you can give.

Sorry for delay but my computer broken.  Using mothers at the mo.

First the ones with no results - sorry.
No Edgars, no Brysons, no Dormans (2nd time I've looked for this).

Got a few Millers that I missed first time around (had to clear away some grass and earth that was covering the stones.

Best result is for Pollok - got the one's I think that you are looking for Anne.

I've taken photos of all the stones that might be relevant but not very clear so I've transcribed them.

Send PMs if and I'll send copies of photos and full transcript.

Miller:

Mary Miller wife of Edward Murray - Mary died 27/2/1926, Edward died 8/3/1930

Children of Matthew and Ann Millar (nee Watson)
Elizabeth died 1844 age 6
Margaret 1852 9
Alexander 1860 19
Elizabeth 1869 17
Annie 1860 19
William 187? 27?
Maggie 1 Dec 1878 21
Agnes 27 Jan 1901

Ann Watson, wife of Matthew 22 Jan 1881 63
Matthew Millar 22 Dec 1903 90

Grandson of Matthew and Ann
Matthew M Murray 19 May 1876 10 months

Pollok:
William Pollok died 14 July 1829 age 53
wife: Ann Whyte 4 Apr 1830 age 42(I wrote this down as 1880 but I may have misread stone - will check but I'm sure it must be 1830)
Son: William died 16 Aug 1847 age 31

PM on it's way Dave!

I'm 99% sure that these are the Polloks I've been searching for.

I downloaded the Wills for both William and Ann and had presumed William died in 1829 and Ann the year after but didn't have an exact date of death for either of them. They had property all over Glasgow and ended up in a 'Country House' in Swinton, near Baillieston which was only demolished in the 1990's after a fire. I knew two of the families who lived in it during the sixties as I lived not too far away.

You've made my day weekend!

Thank you very much!

Anne
