Hi, Can anybody help to solve the mystery of Rose Bessell.

Born Rose Virginia Bessell Sept qtr 1852 Lambeth (no cert yet)
Married Alfred James Rudgley 1871 St.James the Great Bethnal Green (Cert)

Father given as William Bessell Druggist
Witnesses G.Bessell & Elizabeth Bessell

1861 Census ?

1871 census Rose V Bessell age 18 born Southwark
Father John Fishmonger 44 born Hoxton *
Mother Rose  43 born Kingsland
Plus siblings

1881 census Rose Rudgley 28 born Shoreditch

1881 Edward J Bessell 54 Carman born Hoxton
Rose 53 born Kingsland
Plus siblings that more or less match 1871 * see John

1891 Census Rose Rudgley 38 born Southwark

To muddy the waters further there is a George & Elizabeth Bessell on the 1881 census his occupation is Packer for Druggist, Could this be the witnesses?

I think the witnesses to Rose's marriage are her brother George b.1849-1895 and his wife Elizabeth (Gill) Bessell

Hi Jennifer
My G GM was Caroline Bessell, 2nd G granddaughter of John George who was also Rose's 2nd G GF. Caroline's father was Mowbray Bessell b. 19 Sep 1803 Mitcham, Surrey d.9 May 1865, Wollongong, NSW and his father Capt Charles Bessell b. 1767 London d.23 May 1845 Peckham, London and his father was the above John George Bessell b.abt 1738 London d. Mar 1796 London Road, London.  The family originated in Mitcham, Surrey where some of Capt Charles' offspring were born.

I do have details of the wider Bessell descendants if anyone needs further information.

Brian
