I am looking for any more information on the family of George Henry Mortimer b. July 1915 in Newcastle upon Tyne and died 1957 in New Zealand.  I always knew there was a daughter in England-somewhere..BH

I see no one has responded to this post. Are you still looking ?    Can you provide the source for the birth details of George (ie. how do you know it was Newcastle Upon Tyne, could it have been Newcastle Under Lyme).

I see no Mortimers born in Newcastle that year ( there are some a couple of years before and after )

NZ Death Reg has him as born c 1910, age 47 at Death in 1957.
Buying the Cert will provide all the info you require;
Marriages, Time in NZ, Childrens ages and names.

Trish :)

Thank you for your responses and yes I am still looking but since the original post quite a bit of information has come to the surface, as sometimes does with family trees.  We are now pretty sure that George Mortimer was not born in Newcastle, in fact there is evidence to prove that he was not the age as described on his death certificate as I do have a copy of the death with all the info. We now think her was born on 18th July (that is the only thing we do know) but as he was a lot older than our Mum we think he was born between 1895-1905. It was thought it could be London but I have almost exhausted that also, one other thing we know is that there was a sister called Lilian.

He was in NZ from 1946 till his death in 1957 so that's 11 years, he was a slip worker, ie he worked on the wharves,.  He was a merchant seaman during the war we think for the British merchant navy, it is suspected that he jumped ship in Wellington. The names of his 2 daughters are also on the death cert both are living.  I have a couple of entries in the Wellington electoral roles which I can remember to be correct, these roles also proved to us that he was not married to our Mother who was always listed as a spinster.

Some time has passed since I began this search and I have made some advancements.   I have found the man I have been searching for, George Henry Mortimer was born in Islington London in 1898 1st February. He served in the army in the first WW and was still in the army when he married in 1922. There were no children to him and his wife and there are no more directory entries after 1939.  Next thing I have is an entry in 1946 for him showing his birth as 1910 as a passenger from Sydney, Australia to Wellington NZ, these dates fit in exactly as the facts we have. I now want to try to fill in the gaps between 1939 and 1946.  I think he may have left his wife and joined up on a ship as a deckhand and jumped ship in Australia, if anyone has any suggestions for where I can look please let me know. ???
