This is a good one to look up after the National Shipwreck Register.

Encyclopedia of Australian Shipwrecks

P.S. thanks so much to tropicalj(jenn) for the link to the National Shipwreck Register.  You helped me find a shipwreck my mother had researched unsuccessfully for over 30 years.  She had the wrong spelling of the name, I played around with the spelling and found the Taramung in less than 5 minutes.

Hi Everyone,

The National Library of Australia is digitising newspapers from as early as 1803 and no later than 1954, including papers from it seems all over Australia - every page of every issue, and there is a great search engine feature, and all without any fees. (In 2009 the Sydney Morning Herald will be uploaded, wow !, but already the Gazette from 1803 is online, so too papers from Tassie, WA, SA, Vic, Qld, NT, The Canberra Times, and several NSW publications too)

Hi Cando,

I have gone over the postings on this thread, and had not found the beta version of the newspapers listed on this thread.

Thank you for that link that indiciates where that newspaper link had been listed back in Sept 08, and yes I had browsed that link previously.  It was not my intention to cause you concern about duplication, but rather to offer the link for those, like me, who have found the rootschat site only recently, and thus are much less experienced at finding the relevant threads.  I am sorry for causing this duplication of the link to the newspaper site.

Cheers, and my apologies,  :-[

Hi All,

http://www.library.jcu.edu.au/subjectgds/Fac1/LibGuides/indigfamhist.shtml  -For those tracing their Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and South Sea Islander family heritage this site could be very helpful.  I am not sure if this link has been posted on other threads, but perhaps it is relevant to place the link here as this thread seems to be for all Australian Resources.

Cheers,

MA
