Convents in Australia.
« Reply #4 on: Monday 04 June 07 11:09 BST (UK) »
MattieMae posted a message on the Dublin, Ireland board for a convent which she has discovered is actually in Australia. Here's a link to convents on that Continent which may help other members http://www.conventsaustralia.com You can search either by the name of the religious order who were in the convent or by state.

Australian Headstones - Photos
« Reply #5 on: Thursday 21 June 07 07:48 BST (UK) »

The index contains details of headstones from a number of cemeteries in Australia. It initially concentrates on cemeteries in regional NSW, but can expand into other areas as required. There is also photo's available for most of these.

The National Archives of Ireland holds a wide range of records relating to the transportation of convicts from Ireland to Australia covering the period 1788 to 1868. In some cases these include records of members of convicts' families transported as free settlers.

Click here to use the online Ireland-Australia transportation database

The information on the record should show ....

Last name:

First name:

Alias:

Sex:

Age:

Sound name:

Trial place:

Trial date:

Crime desc:

Sentence:

Document ref1:

Comment1:

The Taoiseach presented microfilms of the most important of these records, as a gift from the Government and People of Ireland, to the Government and People of Australia to mark the Australian Bicentenary in 1988. A computerised index to the records was prepared with the help of IBM and is available for use at various locations in Australia.
