Does the abbreviation "unq" mean unqualified?

I have located a strong possibility for an ancestor ont eh edinburgh apprentices register... it states he is son to unq Thomas B, tailor etc etc

Does the unq mean unqualified?

It is probably an abbreviation for unquhile/umquhile (alternative spellings) which means deceased.
