1891/1881/1871/1861 Marriott Derby Look up please

Hi,

I'm trying to trace the ancestors of Emma Jane Marriott b. 11.1.1884.  Know address 10, Darby St, New Normanton, Derby.  Sub district, Shardlow.

Trying to find if she had any siblings and also her parents and grandparents.

Parents names, William Marriott and Hannah Spendlove.

Emma Jane married in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire in 1905

Hope you can help me trace the ancestry of this lady.

Haven't been able to find anything on Emma Jane, but here is some stuff on William and Hannah that may be worth more research.

Thank you Stagsman for your help.  I feel that the first William and Hannah may be a lead, as it mentions Normanton.  This will need further research and perhaps to find the parish records too.

This seems to be quite a hard family to track.  However, I did find a record for a Hannah Spendlove on Mormon site, and it gave her birth year approximately 1856, which links in with  the Hannah in the first census ref; you found.

If you or anyone comes across more information on this family, any help would be appreciated.

Hi Linda,

The William and Hannah b. S. Normanton (1881census)-don't appear to have any children on 1891 -and William is lodging with another family in 1901.

The problem is -South Normanton and (new) Normanton are not the same place

(New) Normanton is near to Derby
South Normanton is near to Alfreton

both are in Derbys

Thanks Suzard for your help.  It definately says New Normanton on Emma Jane's birth certificate and on her marriage certificate her fathers place of birth is documented as being from Derby.

Why is this family so hard to track down?

If these two people, from those listed on FreeBMD, did marry each other then the certificate would provide some valuable information about each of their ages and occupations together with their fathers‘ occupations, which might assist the search for them on the censuses.

You say that on Emma’s marriage certificate her father's place of birth is documented as being from Derby. A marriage certificate does not usually show anyone’s birth place. It usually only shows where the bride and groom were living at the time. Her marriage and birth certificates should, however, show what her father's job was. It may help in the search (unless he was indeed a coal miner, as has already been suggested by the two possible census candidates).

Were either of the witnesses’ name on the marriage certificate potential family members that might help find the families ?

I am sure that loads of RootsChatters as well as yourself have had a look for these people and they are not proving easy to find. I think we all might need some more clues.

They have their name entered as HARRIOTT, however if you check
with the birth of the children listed i.e. James W & Mary H they
have their Births registered as Marriott both Shardlow Registration District.
The Elizabeth listed aged 6 appears to have been born prior to the marriage *
