Do you make it 1890 from his attestation paper..?? I make it an 1892, and I have independent information from the Manchester Regiment Museum saying 1892 also..., rather vexing!

Shame.., 1890 would make it much more convenient!

Is there any way it could be verified?? Assuming the birth register is the right one, is there any other way to confirm it..? Maybe on a wedding certificate?

Wedding certs don't give birth dates, only ages, and they're not necessarily correct  :-\ But then the witnesses might hold a clue ...

Do you know who and when he married?  :)

Mary Elizabeth Hopkinson on 27/12/1902, shortly after he returned from South Africa (Boer War)

The details are again noted in his Army file which I have attached.

Witnesses are: Emma Hopkinson & Richard Sauer? Sauce? ;)

It was at St Simons, Salford (a common theme) and the Minister is listed also if it helps any.

Is there a way to find out the school he attended.. possibly in Salford? This may be a way of confirming his siblings, although having no idea about the place there are probably a few schools in the area!
