One name interest - TOLERTON, Co. Antrim

I am interested in the Tolerton name, Co Antrim.  Does anyone know where this name originated?

The surname doesn't appear in the 1796 Flax Growers List (Spinning Wheel Census).

There are some posts on Ulster Ancestry indicating that the name is of Huguenot origin but the Huguenot Society of Australia website has a note on the Names page which says "Please remember that, strictly speaking, there is no such thing as a 'Huguenot name' - there are only French names."

Hi there, I was really interested to come across your posting, John Alfred Donovan was my great great great grandfather!  I have been trying to get more information too but have hit a blank, but was really intersted in how Annie Donovan went to Battersea.  There was definitely a brother Timothy who emigrated to america.

Thanks, 1st time using this and it gets a little confusing!  I was trying to reply to Jocette, Annie donovan married Joseph Hamilton they had several children, one of whom married a tolerton.
