Did Victor serve in WW1 - It looks like an army football team.

Perhaps someone on the armed forces board could identify the uniform.

Does it say something like "SIGNALS 2nd RWI" and then a date on the ball?

The lad on the right in uniform  has on his sleeve what looks like crossed flags which(may be wrong!!) denotes signaller.

Theres a Victor Lucas on the NA Medal Index Cards  Royal Warwickshire Regiment(RWI??)

Agreed it says something like that. Not sure of "RWI" as a regimental abbreviation though. Could it instead be "RWF" - Royal Welsh Fusiliers?

My thoughts...

Having played with the contrast and brightness there appears to be a date of 1919 on the ball...the chap in uniform far right also appears to have x2 medal ribbons, as well as a good conduct chevron.

The three letters on the ball do appear to go RWF...as the last letter has a straight edge to it. In 1919 the 2nd RWF were in Limerick.

Mind you...looking again(and again!) the thickness of the lettering might mean that the "last letter" is just smudges, and it is the Royal Warwicks!!!

So, what we have here, in my opinion is the signals platoon's  football team either in an inter company competition, of playing against the locals, as the bn champs.
One more charge and then be dumb,
When the forts of Folly fall,
May the victors when they come
Find my body near the wall.
