Looking for Magloire Mecure born 1904 Quebec
« on: Friday 15 June 07 01:44 BST (UK) »
Hello:
Hope I am in the right place..  A relative in England has just contacted me asking if I could help with finding an information on a Magloire Mercure who was born in Quebec in 1904.. He came to England with the Canadian Army in WW2 and stayed there and married.   My relative is helping her co-worker who is trying to find anything out about his grandfather....

Any suggestions would be apprecaited.    The only information he has is he may have been born in a place called St. Matthieu or Abitiabi???

I  have tried looking on the 1911 census in Quebec for Magloire but had no luck...  Am going to suggest that they try and get his grandfather's marriage certificate, hopefully it would have his father's name and that would help with the census searches..

Thank you very much.

Cheers
Anne

www.automatedgenealogy.com has:
1911 / Quebec / Montcalm / 13 Ste. Julienne / page 5
Magloire Mercure, b. Jan 1904.  His parents are Calixte Mercure and Marselline + heaps of siblings.  You can see this family on the 1901 census also:

District:   QU MONTCALM (#171)
Subdistrict:   Sainte-Julienne G-2 Page 5

I would still encourage your friend to get the marriage certificate to check that their Magloire did has a father Calixte.  (I think it is - I can see his death on the English indexes, gives his dates as b. 9 Jan 1904- d. Nov 1984)

http://www.collectionscanada.ca/genealogy/022-909.007-e.html - also it may be possible to get Magloire's WWII records.

This may also be a relative, perhaps the father of above, as he has the same name and was married a second time in St. Juilienne..

Yes the 2 Calixte are on the 1881 father and son...Ste-Julienne, Montcalm, Quebec,,, with the first wife Noncile...so if all works this will be the grandfather...

You'll have to do some checking as there is also a "Calix MERCURE" - on
the 1881 and the ages are similar...so maybe there were 2 of them,
and this was misstranscribed. So I am sorry...
....I'll let jorose help you finish this as my head is not together...
hi, Jorose! Summer is finally here, for us!

J.J.

thank you very much for finding this information for me.. You are right there is two Calixte Mercures.. I think I have sorted out which one is the correct one..  I am hoping to get to the local family history center and look at the Loiselle records they have and should be able track back with the marriage records.

Once again many thanks.

Cheers

Magloire Mercure was the uncle of my mother. My mother's mother was Helene Mercure. They had a quite large family. His father was Calixte Mercure and his mother Marcelline St-Georges (Laporte). His father died in 1916 in Ste-Julienne. He had many brothers and sisters. Helene, my grandmother, Eugénie, Oliva, Lucien, Delisca, Josette-Anne, Azarie, Marie-Anne, Émilienne et Adrien.

I have the rest of the tree on My Heritage. It would be better to give you an access if you want. Here, nobody had any information about him, for what I know. My aunt Marguerite is still alive at 93 years old. She remember him a little and would be delighted to know what happen to him. So if you would be kind enough to send me some information on his life after the war, we would be delighted.

Thank you

Well considering it was way back in 2007 they found quite a bit...The poster didn't ask for ancestral birth information so it wasn't searched out..
