Can anyone help??  My grandfather was born on Nov 25th 1919 and died in Jan 2001. His death was registered under the district of Lambeth.

Does anyone have birth records for him and who his parents were??

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

The bad news is that in the December quarter of 1919, there were seven Charles Chapmans registered.  As your Grandfather's death was registed as Charles Chapman, that narrows it down to two with no middle initial (trusting that he never had one in the first place!).

Charles Chapman
Mother's Maiden name Nown
Dist Chelsea
Vol 1a
Pg 661

Charles Chapman
Mother's Maiden name Newlyn
Dist West Ham
Vol 4a
Pg 13

Do you have any other information that may help?

Regards, Emma ;)

Jesse C Chapman married Lucy A Nown at St Geo Han Sq a 1073
Q3 1913

Charles Chapman married Esther B Newlyn at West Ham 4a 866
Q2 1915

your not supposed to assume anyhting, but it is possible your Charles was named after his dad and was the one born in West Ham place of mariage.

Emma is correct the birth at Greenwich had the middle inital H
Holman & Vinton- Cornwall, Wojciechowskyj & Hussak- Bukowiec & Zahutyn, Bentley & Richards- Leicester, Taylor-Kent/Sussex  Punnett-Sussex,  Bear/e- Monkleigh Gazey-Warwicks

All I know is that he lived in Mitcham Surrey for a while and settled in Streatham were he was living when he died (I assume).

He had a daughter called Sheena and she was born in Mitcham around 1952. His wife or partner was named Ellen.

he had a thick cockney accent if thats any use. I hadn't seen him since 1982 so I can't tell you much more.

OK...have checked 1949-1956 and I only found one Sheena Chapman.  As it is only recent, I will PM you with any further info if I can find a marriage that would tie her to Charles Chapman and Ellen.

Bear with me...

Hi I am/was Celt0603 but I have new username as I haven't used this site for sometime.

Anyhow I wish to resume the Charles Chapman search and I think the Esther Newlyn line may be the one.

I checked the family search site and I found this for the 1881 census.

Ester Newlin

Birth year    1870
Birthplace    Bethnal Green
Age             11
Head of Household    William Newlin

Dwelling               5 McLaren Street
Census Place        London, Middlesex,

Can anyone confirm if its the right one. If it is when and where did she die and who where her parents. Also can anyone shed some light on Charles Chapmans lineage.

Sorry ask so much.
