I have a connection with McKeones from Waterford, originally from Kilfane in Kilkenny where William McKeon was a sub constable in the RIC 1832 to 1862.

Children that survived into adulthood: Catherine, married in Laois, William, married Ellen Thorpe in Waterford; James, joined RIC married Julia Huggins in Cork; Henry my mysteryman who was in the RIC for a short time, on the Goresbridge Census of 1872, possibly married a Margaret Carroll in 1887, after that no idea where he went.
Coffey, Cummins [Rathfalla, Tipperary], Cummins [Skirke, Laois], Curran, Delan(e)y (Laois), Dillon [Clare], Fogarty [Garran, Laois/Tipp], Hughes, Keshan (Keeshan), Loughman [Harristown and Killadooley, Laois], Mallon [Armagh], Malone, Markham [Caherkine, Clare], McKeon(e) [Sligo/Kilkenny/Waterford], McNamara, Meagher, Prescott [Kilkenny/Waterford/Wexford?], Rafferty, Ryan, Sullivan, Tobin

Thanks for posting that.  I haven't come accross any of those names...as far as I know, we have no McKeon Kilkenny connections, that I know of.

When William the son married, the father William would have been a pensioner. I must confess, I presumed that was what the marriage record said, but now that I look at it, I have no idea what that first word is. Surely not a bad spelling of pensioner?

William the father died at his son in law's home in 1891, but I haven't been able to find a grave. He was C of I and they were not, so there was a bit of subterfuge, including his son in law being described as his 'nephew' on the death record.
