Thomas Wills - 1841 & 1851 census - COMPLETED
« on: Tuesday 12 June 07 01:43 BST (UK) »
I'm afraid I do not have much to go on with this request but would appreciate any help.

I know Thomas Wills  was residing in the St.Marylebone district in 1850 - I know that he was a coachman.

In the 1841 census there should be a daughter Elizabeth- age about 20.

Thank you.....

Hi Janet,
HO107/683 Book7

There is a Thomas Wills on the 1841 Census in a large household including the EARL of MANSFIELD
He was aged 41 and I think not born in county(writing very faint). As he was coachman this could be your man but occupation not stated.. No sign of Elizabeth.

Will look in 1851.

Hope that you are well.

Have had no luck with Elizabeth or the 1851 Census.

                                                          Best wishes

Hello Geoff - it's a long time since I have seen you a/board.

Many thanks for checking this for me.

Could I ask you to look again and see if there is a John William Moss in that household in 1841  ???

Look forward to your reply  - trusting you are well too.

Regards...........

No, no sign of John William Moss in that household. I had looked for the Earl of Mansfield in 1851 to see if your Thomas Wills was still with the family, but no trace.
Yes I have been more active lately. More time and waiting impatiently for broadband or rather internet by WIFI in my small village. Planned for first week in July.
If you want full details of the 1841 let me know, I still have your e-mail address somewhere.

                   Best wishes

Thank you Geoff for doing that for me. I shall keep looking.

We don't have broadband yet though it is widely  available - at a price. No doubt we will get it one day.

I like the look of your garden. We have a very NZ garden - lots of ' bush ' and big trees together with cabbage trees and ferns. It's very nice and the birds love it too.

Sending you all good wishes - have happy days........

Hello Emmeline

If he was a coachman he might be shown as a M.S (male servant) this being understandable...........

Have you any approx ages for Thomas Wills and John William Moss in 1841 and where were they born ie in Middx ..........as we have plenty to choose from!

Bryant
Researching names BRYANT (Camberwell), PASTERFIELD (Essex and all), RAY (Holborn/Islington areas back to Brentford), POWELL (Glouc & beyond?)
Fletcher (Glouc into Warwickshie into Lancs?), BUCKLEY (Chatham area), Watson (Chatham area).

Have sent you details just before leaving for holiday in Somerset. Good luck with your searches.

Bryant, the Thomas Wills I found in 1841 was aged 41 and not born in county(I think) That does not mean much as the 1841 is limited and could just mean he was not born in Marylebone/St Pancras.
                                                               Regards

Hello Bryant

Thank you for your interest.

John William Moss was my Gt.Gt.Grandfather and born in Bradwell On Sea - Essex c1823.

He is not with his mother Amelia Moss and others in the 1841 census - Essex.

On his marriage to Elizabeth Wills - St.Marys Church, Marylebone in 1850 his residence is given as Esher - he is a Coachman as is his new father-in-law Thomas Wills. Elizabeth's residence is given as St Marys District.

From then on I have a great deal of information on John & Elizabeth and family ( not yet found in 1851 census. )
By then they would have had William Thomas born 1850 - some 3 months after the wedding.

In later life John became rather a mystery man - changing his name to William John but all in all I know quite a lot -other than the 1841 and 1851 census.

Hope this is enough to go on  ::)  Kind regards.....
