Venrus, Venross, Venerus Family

[Pilgrims Progress]

Hi from Down Under,      

Would any kind person be able to assist me with any information on this most unusual surname and its family members.

Thomas Venrus m Sarah Campbell 1834 @ St Thomas, Dudley, Worcestershire.

The couple appear to have at least two children Thomas b c:1841 at West Bromwich and George b c1846 at West Bromwich. I have the 1881 Census record of Thomas b c:1841 and his married family recorded under the name Venross and living at Harborne, Staffordshire.

Would love to know if there are any earlier census records e.g. 1841, 1851, 1861, 1871
of the original Thomas and Sarah who married in 1834.

The surname is a difficult one and appears to have been spelt a multitude of different ways including Veneress, Veneross, Venerous, Venerus, Venrace, Venrice, Venrose, Vernors, Venars, etc.

Any one please ? I'd be delighted and extremely grateful if you are up to the challenge of this most allusive family!

At the risk of making a complete idiot of myself (yet again) I think that this may be the family. However the original document is very difficult to read and it would help if someone else could check it.

This is what I think it says (apart from the surname which I have inserted based upon the FreeBMD registrations for most of the children). I cannot actually read what the surname says but it has been transcribed/indexed as “Rmcrass” (which I am sure is wrong).

On FreeBMD there are corresponding birth registrations for Eanock, Thomas, George and Caroline Vennars or Venars. I cannot find one for the six year old daughter. The oldest daughter, Sarah A, preceded registration.

The parents Thomas and Sarah match (almost) with previous data as do the sons Thomas and George.

Will someone else please have a look and see what you think and comment as necessary.

Assuming that Pilgrims Progress has downloaded George's marriage and/or death certificate(s) from ScotlandsPeople, PP should be able to advise what it states on them as George's father's occupation.

The mother on your 1851 census entry might be the following death:
Elizabeth FALCONBRIDGE, December quarter 1858, West Bromwich, Volume 6b. Page 385.

It is extremely hard to read and I refuse to take my hat off to
DS anymore because my arms are getting sore .. ..  

In my opinion this most certainly appears to be the correct family Pilgrims Progress.

Shes in the same household as this family, which I think is your Thomas and Sarah, Surname looks like "..utton" S/J?
