There's a John Alfred Caswell b1889 Q2 St. Germans (Cornwall) 5c 39.

Long way from wales but everything else matches up.

There's a John Caswell b1890 Q2 Corwen (Wales) 11b 358.

No Alfred but in Wales.

Many thanks - I'm pretty sure the John Alfred born in Cornwall died quite soon after but the John born in Corwen is worth further investigation - thanks again

Hello Rance, if you are looking at the 1881 census Rhondda was then called Ystradfodwg, later on it came under Mid Glamorgan, the Caswell's that I know originated in Clydach in the Rhondda, hope this helps if not get in touch again.
