Thanks for your contact r1b1c7 and helpful suggestions.

I contacted Drumgooland Pres. Church some time ago but was informed that unfortunately they have no records of burials in Closkelt Burial Ground before 1940. I have also visited the Burial Ground but found nothing relevant to my research. Banbridge DC were also unable to help me with records relating to Drumadonald Churchyard at Moneyslane which I have also visited but found nothing relevant. I have an elderly living relative though, living in Canada, who can remember attending a family funeral in Drumadonald Churchyard.

The name Bronte or Brunty hasn't come up in my research this far and doesn't mean anything to me - sorry.

Thanks also aghadowey for your contact and helpful suggestions and your introduction to http://family.kiwicelts.com/Maps/Ulster_Map.html.

I think BallyaltikilliganG has discovered where I came across the reference to Shannaghan being an unattached townland of the Parish of Newry - Ros Davies' Website. Although this give me some explanation why my great grandfather might be recorded at his wedding as living at Shannaghan on one document and Newry on another I don't quite understand what an 'unattached townland' is (or was).

Thanks everyone for your useful help and advice - I'll just have to keep hammering at my 'brick wall'!!

John

I'm guessing that the groom's residence was the TOWNLAND of Shannaghan but the marriage took place in the Newry REGISTRATION DISTRICT?

John , a match exists for a marriage
From emeraldancestors.com
1878 john  XXXXXX marries    harriet jane  BINGHAM   Down
1878 john  CAMPBELL   marries harriet jane XXXXXXXX    Down

referring back to Griffiths valuation listings in a previous above, my Santa Claus covered up ???
Campbell ??? Drumadonnell Drumgooland Down
??? is most unusual

burials, I have learnt to rely on Ros Davies listings under Churches, then by the civil parish, and each chutch often has a list of surviving records

I didn’t check www.familysearch.com
I must call it a day on the Campbell Binghams
Good luck onwards, Jim

Did you have any luck finding information on drumadonald cemetery?
I have been in the cemetery. Banbridge council have adopted the graveyard, however I could never trace any records prior to the council taking it over.
You may already know this but just in case you don't. It is a very small graveyard situated at the back of what once was drumadonald school. The building is derelict now, however I was told that it was a listed building. My Father went to this school and recalls watching from his classroom at men digging graves. He left school in approx 1936.
Our family registered interest in a plot when the council was taking graveyard over. I was told that we had ancestors buried there. However my fathers generation have all died and I don't know whatever happened to the plot.
Just wondered if you ever found any information regarding the graveyard.

The pictures are not of Drumadonald/ Drumadonnel . But your info about the cross is correct.
I will contact Drumgolland to find out if they hold records.
I have been to the graveyard , wonderful views of the mountains of mourne.
Thanks for the information. I appreciate your help.

Thank you both for your messages Jarvey50 & BallyaltikilliganG.

I have visited both these graveyards a number of times in my Campbell/Bingham quest with unfortunately no results - even though I have Obituaries relating to both. Back around 2007, when I enquired, Banbridge Council indicated they had no records relating to Drumadonald and the records held by Drumgooland PC for the adjacent Closkelt cemetery were of no assistance to my research.

Sorry this isn't of any help to you.
