Hi there

Falcon does seem to be quite an unusual name - I don't know where it came from!

I have checked right through all of the records that I have and this is the only occurrence that I can find of the name.

Ireland: Arlour, Arlow, Hammond, Hannah, Shanks, Templeton

Scotland: Allan, Black, Carlyle, Corkingdale, Fleeting, Grant, Hammond, Hannah, Kirkwood, Lothian, McFarlane, Main, Neilson, Shanks, Sneddon, Stirling, Wood

Hi Krissy

Glad to know that this investigation is still very much 'alive' (unlike most of the subject matter!!!).

Please check out the link provided earlier by the chat moderator to my other related inquiry at

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,238041.0.html

This gives info on a new lead worth looking at in an attempt to trace the origins of the Hammond family.

hi there,
read the other post its a start but the mid  to late 1900s is gonna be a tough call, i would put a request out on the norfolk board altough the dates are vague you never know some kind chatter may well be able to get the info , you have an area so that may well narrow things down
will keep fingers crossed , i have had a look on ancestry but nothing near those dates will keep digging ok
good luck

Hi Krissy

I believe that they moved from Dublin after the Easter rising of 1916 and stayed for a while in Bangor (they were Protestants and could no longer stay in the south of Ireland).  I have no idea what became of them after that.

I believe that some of the Hammonds moved to England but whether my gt gt grandparents did or not I don't know.  Unfortunately I do not know the names of the ones that went to England.

My gt grandmother, Mary Elizabeth Hammond, married a Thomas Hannah in 1895 in Dublin and moved to Scotland sometime before the birth of their first child in 1899.

 :)

Some of the Hammonds moved to England ... Have you any details of the ones that stayed in Bangor?
The 1970-1 Spectator Directory of Bangor lists six people named Hammond.

At least 2 of Mary Elizabeth Hammond's 3 sisters stayed in Ireland.  They were Nellie Hammond and Florrie Hammond.  As far as I can tell neither Nellie nor Florrie were married.

I don't have dates of birth for Nellie and Florrie but would guess that they were born 1860 - 1870 in Dublin.  My father has told me that Florrie was still alive in 1949, by which time she was living in Belfast.  Apparently there was a much older lady living with her, who was said to be 100 yrs old i.e. born around 1849ish!  I don't know who the older lady could have been.  It wasn't Florrie's mother, Agnes Templeton, because she is recorded as being already deceased on Mary Elizabeth Hammond's 1918 death certificate.

I don't know what became of the 3rd sister, Georgina Hammond.  All I know about her is that she was born 10 Aug 1870 at Rathmines, Dublin.

Hope you enjoy a challenge!

I can't tell you anything about Scottish routes, but I am interested in finding more about Robert Falcon Scott's life in Devonport, and particularly his sailing interests. He was a great friend of a great uncle Edward Norris (known as Teddy) who was a boatbuilder in the Devonport area. Teddy and Capt. Scott sailed together on a yacht called Iverna. Does this mean anything to you or can you give me any clues as to research

Hello Pauline,

The 1863 to 1913 D Crew lists held by the National Archives mentions a vessel called the Iverna. These lists show when and where the ships were built and registered. The lists also include the type of power used on the ships and their tonnage as well as the names of the Master and Owner. In many cases Crew Lists are available as well as voyages made by the ships. www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/a2a/records.aspx?cat=043-clasa&cid=-1#-1

according to the igi there are only 2 possibles , one in devon and one in scotland.

The IGI covers only some of the Devon parishes so, sadly, you cannot assume that "there are only 2 possibles".
