Pemberton Church - St John's
« on: Thursday 07 June 07 00:40 BST (UK) »
St John's church in Pemberton, Lancashire ---

Am curious as to whether  the Birth/Christening, Marriage, and Death/Burial records from this church are available either in book form or on CD for purchase. If so where is source.

Thanks in advance.

Celia -

Perhaps I am missing something there. I only see records that are held in the Records office.

I am a senior citizen living in Connecticut, USA. The probability of my ever getting to the Records Office is about equivalent to me walking on the moon. That is why what I am looking for is if there has been a book published with transcripts from this church or even better the records/transcipts available for purchase on a CD.

If I missed something - I apologize - and if I have, can you be more specific as to where on that site I should look.

Thanks

Dee

Dear Dee,

There is always the Lancashire Parish Clerks Online Project. They seem to have begun transcribing records for St Johns, Pemberton (listed under Wigan). I hope this link will take you there. http://www.lan-opc.org.uk/Wigan/Pemberton/stjohn/index.html

If not, put Lancashire Parish Clerks Online into Google and it's the first one you get!

Hope this helps,

Sue --

Unfortunately the OPC for this parish appears to have gone missing or found other interests. After an initial posting of 27 marriage records a year or more back --- nothing else has been added. I keep hoping but -------

Hi Dee,

This might be a stupid question, but have you tried to e-mail them with your query? I found them very helpful when I did this, and they did reply very quickly. If they can't help, they might be able to give you a lead as to who might be able to.

The registers are available at the Wigan History Shop. The staff there will do a search on your behalf for a small fee.
Looking at ALSTON in south Ribble area, ALSTEAD and DONBAVAND/DUNBABIN etc. everywhere, HOWCROFT and MARSH in Bolton and Westhoughton, PICKERING in the Whitehaven area.

Census information is Crown Copyright. See www.nationalarchives.gov.uk for details.

Hi Dee
I spent my youth at St John's Church Pemberton.  It has the largest church graveyard in the Liverpool diocese and an alarming number of graves to file online.  I no longer live around there, but if it is of any help there are two sites you can use while they are working on the parish records.  The records are not yet on line.  I had to do a physical search when I last went there.  The two sites are: www.wiganworld.co.uk  and Lancashire Births Marriage Deaths.
The Wigan History shop have been incredibly helpful to me.  If it is a straightforward one off search they have done it without charge.
Hope this is helpful
