Hi Kathy,
You will find Searles spelled many ways e.g. Sarls, Sarles, Serles and Searles and of course all of those without the s. There are no doubt other variants but I've just listed those I've personally come across in my Searles research.
According to map quest, Moreton is 25.9 miles by road from White Notley. Don't let distance bother you too much, it is not uncommon for people to move from one end of a county to the other. I have an ancestor who was baptised in Yorkshire and married in Essex, some moved from the next County, one was born in Norfolk and married in Coggeshall, Essex.
The IGI also has a few Searles in White Notley, 8 baptisms on batch number C047541 and one marriage on M047541, John Searles married Ann Biggs at White Notley on 12 Nov 1745.
Regards
