The Jones family go to Canada
« on: Wednesday 30 May 07 17:57 BST (UK) »
Has anyone any idea how I trace a family who went to live in Canada when I dont know exactly whereabouts they went!

Thomas James Jones Born Standish in 1877
Isabella Jones (nee Lowe) born Manchester in 1880
James Jones born Liverpool in 1998
Isabella Jones born Liverpool in 1900
Elsie Jones born Liverpool sometime after 1901

I think they must have gone not long after Elsie was born because they came back to Liverpool for a visit about 1920 having really established themselves in Canada. They only stayed for a visit and went back again taking with them Thomas's father William Jones who incidentaly died there aged 90. (again - I dont know when)!
I know there is not much to go on but perhaps someone can point me in the right direction for information.
Thanks very much
Cecile

Hi Cecile,

I cannot find the family on the 1911 census.  There is a James Jones married in Kitchener, Waterloo,Ontario.
James Jones, born Liverpool, abt. 1898, age 21
Parents - Thos. Jones & Isabella Lowe
Spouse - Daisy Ford, born England, abt. 1900, age 19
Parents - Robert Ford & Helen Ellaway
Marriage Date -   30 Aug 1919

I will check in Ontario and see if there is anything else on the rest of the family.  :)

Judy

Hi Judy
Thanks for all this information - it certainly sounds like my family.
James that was married in Canada was my mothers cousin. She will be delighted when I tell her what you have found out she is 101 this year and talks a lot about 'the family' when she was a child. Apparently, the Joneses came back for a visit about 1920 and wanted to take my mother back with them, but of course she was very young and my grandmother wouldnt let her go! My gt. grandfather went instead. He was William Jones retired blacksmiths striker. He was born in Liverpool abt. 1857 and he died in Canada aged about 90! but we dont know where.
Thanks so much for your help
Cecile

Hi Cecile,

There is a website OCFA (Ontario Cemetery Finding Aid)  http://www.islandnet.com/cgi-bin/ms2/jveinot/search
If you fill in surname with Jones, cemetery - Woodland and county - Waterloo, you will find an Isabella Jones and a William H. Jones buried there.  I don't know if they are your family, but Isabella seems likely.  Any further information on the entry could be found through the Waterloo Branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society.
http://www.waterlooogs.ca/

Appears that daughter Isabella Jones married Richard Gough.  Isabella passed away Feb 23, 1930 in Kitchener.  She is also buried in Woodland Cemetery in  Kitchener.

PM me with your email address.

Judy
