Aston Rowant/Kingston Blount- Belson
« on: Sunday 27 May 07 20:20 BST (UK) »
Currently researching the Belson side of the family - it would be great to have this look up from Aston Rowant/Kingston Blount Registers to make sure I am on the right track!

Richard Belson chr 1555 or 1556 (2 January) I believe his parents were Thomas Belson and Elizabeth, but may be wrong here!

Richard married Edith Dutton and other researchers have suggested these children for the couple:

Richard born c1601 (chr 21 December 1601)
Alicia 1625 (this seems a bit late to me) ???
William

Any help gratefully received! :D

Kind Regards
Hamandpineapple

Richard Belson was baptised in Aston Rowant Jan 2 1556/7. There are no parents' names given.

The Richard Belson baptised in Dec 21 1601 s/o Richard is there, but I can't see any likely siblings.

Alice Belson d/o Richard was baptised Sep 27 1629 but she must surely belong to the Richard baptised in 1601:

Richard Belson married Alice Pott  July 14 1628 Aston Rowant.

You don't say when Richard snr married Edith Dutton but it wasn't in Aston Rowant and, given that he would have been 46 when Richard jun was baptised, is it not possible that there is a missing generation here?

Just a thought.

Just had a browse through the OFHS's Oxfordshire Marriage Index (1538-1837) to see if I could throw any light on the above - with mixed results!

The only Thomas BELSON marriage on the index is in 1835 (ie. nothing to an Elizabeth pre 1555).   There is a Robert BELSON and Joan DARRELL marrying at Aston Rowant on 04 OCT 1555 - possible parents for Richard b1555/6?

Richard's marriage to Edith DUTTON is not on the index either.  The earliest marriage for any Richard BELSON on the index is the one to Alice POTTS in 1628.

I have checked alternative spellings - BEL(L)SOn(N)(E).

Aston Rowant is only a parish or two away from the boundary with Buckinghamshire - have you researched in that county?

Hi Gawin, and welcome to Rootschat.

It looks as though Hamandpineapple hasn't been on this site for quite a while so may not reply to your post.

If he/she does, great - but I didn't want a newcomer to be put off by being inadvertantly ignored!

May I suggest that you try posting a request on the appropriate county board's Look Up Requests re your Coles and see if anyone can help. If your Coles are from Aston Rowant - I might be able to help. Lots of other Rootschatters to help on other county boards as well - so just go for it!!  ;D
