Glasgow Police
« on: Sunday 27 May 07 18:19 BST (UK) »
I have a relation Samuel Boyd - who, according to the 1901 census, was a Police constable living in Govan, Lanarkshire.  Would someone have any knowledge of anywhere I could any information of his records, etc.

Thank

Mark

The records of the City of Glasgow Police are held at the Mitchell - although technically he wasn't in the Glasgow Police he would have been in Govan Burgh Police - I am sure that the records which survived the various amalgamations are all with the Mitchell in Glasgow.

This link from Strathclyde Police explains the procedures and what records are open

I  got a copy of my Grandfathers police record from the Mitchell

email address is:   archives[at][/blue]gcl.glasgow.gov.uk (Replace [at] with @)

It costs ten pounds for a copy of the complete record.

Thanks for the leads - I had been stuck but this has given me another angle to go on.
