Brayton Isolation Hospital - WWII
« on: Monday 21 May 07 11:18 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could tell me a little bit about Brayton Isolation Hospital, which I believe is/was near Selby.

According to my father my grandmother was a Nursing Auxiliary there during the second world war, and she lived in Selby.

The only other details I have from my father is that it was a TB hospital.

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards
Paul

Thanks Toni* & Perth Tiger, I can only assume so far that Toni* is correct regarding the fate of the hospital, as my father is sure of the name.

I wonder if there is a register of WWII Nursing Auxiliaries.

does it come under Harrogate Council? which would explain why it was listed on their planning application proposal.

i don't think WW2 records are readily available you can apply for them however giving your reasons for requesting them and i think the form has to be signed by the next of kin (so i was told)

I think it must be the one near to Selby as my grandmother was living in Powell Street, Selby at the time (the family home), and my great-grandfather was working at the Oil & Cake Mills, Selby (Taken from the wedding certificate in 1943 for my grandparents).

Where would you start, with regards to applying for information/records, as a Nursing Auxiliary she was not in military service.
